Life as a bower bird, a collector of beautiful things, provides a starting point for Gretta Hazel’s rich and robust jewellery collections.

Inspiration comes from a cabinet of curiosities, as Gretta draws on forgotten histories to create intimate and playful pieces for everyday wear. Vintage lace is roller-printed into silver, leaving a permanent impression. Antique keys and coins are cast in silver and gold before being set with precious gems. New life is brought to cast-offs; new memories are invested in forgotten objects.

Rather than aligning with a particular technique, Gretta employs the method that best fits her intention. She is drawn to techniques that have a significant place in silver-smithing, particularly hand engraving and filigree. Investing in historical techniques confirms their important place in contemporary jewellery. The processes of silver-smithing provide another source of inspiration, experimentation and play, and bring a dynamic element to Gretta’s ever-evolving collections.

The Gretta Hazel story starts and ends with a collection of beautiful things. A thoughtful and feminine series of jewellery pieces which are comfortable, wearable, tactile, robust. A small piece of history for the everyday, just waiting to grow with the wearer’s own story.
